Our Design Process

Ours is a collaborative process, designed to identify and clarify your goals and desires for your garden space..

What’s Included

Dream it.

We provide a detailed questionnaire to assist in identifying all the elements you might dream of having in an outdoor living space. We work to understand what is really important - scent, structure, colors - what you really love, and what you can do without.

Design It.

We provide a series of three to five scaled sketches as part of the initial design process. These give clients ideas of how the garden might be laid out, the flow of elements , and from this process we can begin to identify what might work for you.

From scaled sketches we move to a final layout for client approval. Once approved an installation schedule is developed.

Grow it.

From a simple scaled sketch to a three-D rendering, the design process continues in a collaborative manner. We will provide samples of materials - stone, containers, lights - so that the final design elements are client selected, client approved. At the end of the design process we want you to have pride in your design and a commitment to your garden.

How It Works

Design

From our initial questionnaire to pinterest boards and client photo's, we begin the design process by exploring the how, why, when and who will be using the yard. We then provide a variety of concepts to allow our clients to visualize all the possibilities.

Plan

Once clear priorities are defined, and rough budgets discussed, we can begin to focus on individual elements. What hardscape materials are to be used? What new construction will need to occur? Lighting and irrigation are discussed, and our plant and color palettes developed. Budgets and plans continue to be refined and explored - projects may be split into phases - and a final plan and budget is agreed upon.

Build

The overall design process through a final plan is roughly a six week process. During the planning phase we will begin to acquire resources and materials so that when we get to this phase of the project, we have all the resources necessary to execute. The most expensive element is our labor. To be cost effective we must be organized and extremely efficient. Final build phase traditionally does not run more than three weeks.
